FAQ

Planning for Camp Turner? Our FAQs answer families' most common questions about our summer camp, including registration, packing lists and more!

As one of only a few American Camp Association-accredited summer camps in Western New York, Camp Turner is committed to providing a safe, well-supervised, faith-filled experience where parents can feel confident and their campers can thrive.

How old should my camper be to attend camp? Most sessions are for campers ages 8–15, with Session B designed for younger campers ages 7–13. There is no specific age at which a child is “ready” for camp, but we recommend they: can manage their own basic hygiene independently, can communicate needs to staff and come with an open mind.

What time are drop-off and pick-up? Camp sessions begin each Sunday at 2 p.m. and end each Friday at 6:05 p.m.

What should my camper pack? In general, campers should bring clothing for the week, toiletries, bedding, towels, closed-toe shoes, and any required medications. A full packing list is available in the Parent Handbook.

Do you have medical care on site? Yes. A nurse is on site at all times. All medications (except emergency inhalers and EpiPens) are collected at check-in and stored in the Health Center.

Can you accommodate food allergies or dietary needs? In many cases, yes. Please list all allergies and dietary needs on your camper’s health forms and contact us with any specific concerns.

How do you handle homesickness? Homesickness is normal and usually temporary. Staff are trained to support campers by listening, encouraging connection, and helping them engage in activities. Most campers adjust and go on to have a great experience.

Can I send mail or care packages? Yes. Families may send letters and approved camp communications during the week. Instructions for mail, one-way email, and any care package guidelines will be provided before camp.

What is a typical day like? Campers participate in a mix of structured and choice-based activities each day, including: •Assigned activity periods •Choice/elective periods •Club or specialty opportunities Schedules vary to keep things engaging and fun.

How often do campers ride horses? Each camper rides at least once, with additional opportunities through choice or club periods.

Are campers required to participate in activities? Campers are encouraged to try new things, but our team members work supportively with those who are hesitant.

Is Camp Turner a Catholic camp? Yes. All campers and staff attend one camp Mass per week. Services are camper-friendly and respectful of all backgrounds.
